Lego Replica Of Khan’s USS Reliant
Star Trek fan Christer Nyberg used 10-15,000 Lego bricks to craft a copy of Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan’s USS Reliant. the ship features working lights and even a cargo bay.
You can catch more of Nyberg’s Lego creations here.
Holy shit, this is like the next level of nerd.
I LOVE IT
I link to this despite being of an age that Voyager is the truest, most natural series in the franchise for me. (And, for what it’s worth, First Contact was the best of the movies.) But I went back to watch a few old episodes recently and was reminded of how unbearable it could be, so it’s interesting to hear from somebody who has taken a more critical eye to the entire series than a 10-year-old who likes explosions and astronauts and newness.
The sixth point—technology is overused until it loses all meaning—really stands out for me because I just watched The Wrath of Khan (1982) and was really shocked at how much starships were treated like blind, weak, vulnerable submarines until, I guess, The Next Generation. I think (oh god, I am just realizing that I have a lot of opinions about this) the return to a submarine model of space travel was a strength of the first attempt at a reboot, even if it was a little too self-consciously of its post-9/11 moment.
Stopping now before an internet bully overhears me.
I watched Voyager’s series twice through, and never actually noticed a couple of these reasons until now. But every that article mentioned is true. No question about it.

Picard’s face in the last frame is priceless.

Faith Pearson’s Sci-Fi ink cartridge art makes a very convincing case for not recycling your old ink cartridges.

…Whaaa?
Anyone with last name Cochrane willing to name their son, Zephram in the future?
Because Star Trek is gonna happen.
how did you come up with the name infinitanium?
The question I’ve sorta been waiting for.
Well as a moderate fan of Star Trek, and no I’m not a hardcore. They have this future alloy, (which is very possible) called Tritanium, basically a stronger version of Titanium, but a much more easily bendable alloy.
When picking a name for tumblr, my name wasn’t too original. Just didn’t really fit the “style” I thought it had. tumblr had an original style to me. So, I went through my head, thinking of random things for a good 2-5 minutes. Typed them down, backspaced them and vice versa. Then Tritanium came to mind… but that’s not original. I thought, what if, centuries later, a MUCH stronger metal alloy, one that is unbreakable is discovered, or researched, or however you introduce a new alloy. I tried out a couple different spellings of the name.
Infinatanium
Infinitenium
Then of course, the obvious spelling came out. Infinitanium.
Perfect. And saved my name. Infinite Metallics. Infinite Tanium (is that even a metal alloy? Was there something before Titanium?)
Thanks for the question. Keep them coming.
